Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge Super Bowl fan. When I moved to the South I was astounded to learn that people care more about college football than the pros. SEC is apparently a major draw around here. I actually had a client who's birth I attended of their firstborn daughter, Sawyer Elizabeth Collins(SEC). Well, the way y'all get excited about the SEC is the way I get excited about the Super Bowl. And it's got nothing to do with the teams or what players I like or even what color uniforms I like best. It's got everything to do with what it represents. It's got everything to do with competition, the struggle to win, and the journey it takes to get there.
Tom Brady, the 41-year old quarterback for the New England Patriots for the last EIGHTEEN years, will attempt to secure his SIXTH Super Bowl win. This will be his NINTH trip to the Super Bowl and has been named MVP FOUR times. We've all watched him play or at least seen highlights, and whether you love him or hate him(and if you hate him it's because you're a hater, meaning you can't stand to see someone at the top of their game STAY at the top of their game, because of what that might bring up when it comes to questioning how much you are living up to your own potential), we all must agree that he's doing something right. Turns out, he is! And they are actions we can implement in our own lives to motivate us to taking our lives to the next level of greatness that we all deserve to be experiencing as much as we possibly can with the time we have left on this Earth.
Tom Brady believes in a holistic approach to his health and his training. He believes in the notion that our bodies perform best and respond best to stressful situation when practicing what we call the Four Seeds of Self-Care. When it comes to sleep, Tom usually goes to bed at the same time every night. He makes sure to sleep in a dark room with no external stimuli to keep him up, and he turns off all electronics at least 30 minutes before bedtime. For nutrition, Brady strives to drink 25 glasses of water everyday. And don't worry about measuring it out because if you drink 25 glasses of any size in a given day, we are going to call that doing a kick-ass job at getting your proper hydration. Proper exercise is a key component to keeping Tom Brady in the best physical condition possible and he firmly believes that a wide range of exercise from stretching to weight training is key to maximum success on the football field. Last but never least, Brady practices regular mindfulness on the field and off, planting the seeds of intelligent play and long-lasting potential.
We may never play in a Super Bowl. Hell, we may never even GO to a Super Bowl, but let us use the enjoyment of the game to reflect on the champion potential we all have within us- some more dormant than others, but there, nonetheless. We are made up of the same stuff as Tom Brady. The only difference lies in the extent we have given ourselves permission and commitment to discover our greatness. Four Seeds of Self-Care my friends. Plant them. Water them. Watch them grow.
With love and gratitude,
Kinda and Rachel
